Doctors have prescribed Digoxin with another drug called "Warfarin/Coumadin".  Usual age group prescribing standards are for persons in their sixties(60's) & seventies(70's).  If a Patient has Atrial Fibrillation, it's possible many Patients may still be prescribed these medications.  Check with your doctor today.
However, based on the following Digoxin Study",  there's a drug called Coumadin/Warfarin ~one Medical Study insisting on "High Levels of Isometric Strokes that occur in Atrial Fibrillation Patients" ~with no~ "Congestive Heart Failure".
Originally, when doing research, we found these medical studies.  These show findings where people having Afib are dying that have or are possibly still taking Digoxin.  More studies years after astudy in 2013, say Digoxin is still dangerous for Afib patients as all of the experts indicate an Afib Patient taking Digoxin without having a heart problem still has an extremely high mortality.  See the update 2019 study titled "Meta-Analysis of Effects of Digoxin on Survival in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation or Heart Failure: An Update" explains a new 95% level of mortality of Afib Patients taking Digoxin.
What about the long-term disabilities after Digoxin is taken?
In the next few paragraphs, you will hear about what warnings we've learned  and, provide information to discuss with your doctor just in case you take this medication, or Digoxin for Atrial Fibrillation ~without~ Congestive Heart Failure, or any other 'Heart Condition Diagnosis'.  We provide the medical study links & information here auto 'built-in links' for you to easily get to the published studies.
Dr. Renato Lopes of Duke University looks at Digoxin as a Killer for Atrial Fibrillation Patients at 95%:
Presentation to the American College of Cardiology on March 13, 2018 by Dr. Renato Lopes, provided more insight regarding the Digoxin toxic properties in Afib Patients.  It was also provided to the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (NCBI).  Here it directs the dangers of taking Digoxin in the Abstract called:  Digoxin and Mortality in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation.
In January of 2019, Dr. Lopes worked worldwide with different research specialists on this study.  The information documented in the study, the NCBI states the following: "95% All-Cause-Mortality" for Afib Patients taking Digoxin:
"We performed an updated systematic review and random-effect meta-analysis on publications up to March 2018 reporting data on digoxin associated mortality in subjects with AF or HF. Based on the adjusted survival data of all identified 37 trials comprising a total of 825,061 patients, digoxin use was associated with an increased relative risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR] 1.17, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.05 to 1.29, p <0.01)."
Press Release:  March 19, 2017 New Study Adds to Concerns about Heightened Risk of Death for AFib Patients Taking Digoxin: Risk rises in direct proportion to levels of drug in blood
The contact regarding this quote below is:  Nicole Napoli, nnapoli@acc.org, 202-669-1465:
"WASHINGTON (Mar 19, 2017) - Patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib) who are given digoxin to control their symptoms have an increased risk of death, whether or not they have a diagnosis of heart failure, compared with patients not taking the drug, and this risk increases with higher levels of digoxin in the bloodstream, according to research presented at the American College of Cardiology's 66th Annual Scientific Session.

An increased risk of death from any cause—the study's primary endpoint—was found in both patients with and without heart failure who started on digoxin. Researchers report the study is one of the largest and most comprehensive analyses of the risk of digoxin use in patients with AFib performed to date."

That same date, the American College of Cardiology on March 19, 2017, at their yearly event where Dr. Renato Lopes, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at Duke University discussed his Digoxin findings, he indicates if a Patient has Atrial Fibrillation (Afib) and is taking Digoxin, this leads to increase of "All Mortality Death".  Even doing another formal Digoxin Study, could put Patients at risk for even a reevaluation of one or more of the effects of Digoxin ingested for the purpose & used for treating Atrial Fibrillation.
On 3-19-2017 Dr. Lopes indicates clearly speaks that if a Patient has Atrial Fibrillation, taking Digoxin leads to increased deaths at a very high risk:
"Based on our study, Digoxin should be avoided in patients with AFib, particularly if symptoms can be alleviated with other treatments, we showed that starting Digoxin was associated with increased risk of death and sudden death, regardless of the presence of heart failure. Thus, based on our findings, avoiding Digoxin in patients with AFib—irrespective of the presence of heart failure—seems to be the right approach."
Leading researchers, medical doctors doing this re-visiting study, clearly indicated a 95% chance of Atrial Fibrillation Patients dying, with the NCBI stating once again the following:
"In conclusion, this updated meta-analysis confirms that digoxin use is associated with increased mortality in patients with AF or HF."
Dr. Lopes speaks of publications that have listed issues of safety regarding Digoxin for Atrial Fibrillation Patients:
"A number of recent publications have questioned the safety of this drug, and different analyses looking at different questions have shown conflicting results. There are no randomized data assessing the efficacy and safety of Digoxin in patients with AFib,"
During this yearly event, Dr. Lopes, a Professor at Duke University, he stated the following:
"To definitively determine the efficacy and safety of Digoxin in Atrial Fibrillation patients would require a large and well-powered randomized trial. Until then, our finding that Digoxin may be causing more harm than good in patients with AFib is important and may help guide physicians in their clinical decisions when managing these patients."
Medical Studies: Digoxin Kills Atrial Fibrillation Patients 71% Higher Risk
Medical Studies: Digoxin Kills Heart Failure Patients 72% Higher Risk
There is a drug called Digoxin that doctors have prescribed for Heart Patients and Atrial Fibrillation Patients.  Yet it's a killer drug, say the doctors doing the medical study. We want to provide information that keeps you in the loop with different things we learn about, in hopes it may help you, or maybe someone you may know.
Digoxin study had a press release about the study 11/21/2014: ~ "Digoxin Associated With Higher Risk of Death and Hospitalization in Adults With Atrial Fibrillation and No Heart Failure" ~November 21, 2014~formal studies done from years 2006 to 2014, indicates the following:
"Our findings suggest that the use of Digoxin should be re-evaluated for the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation in contemporary clinical practice..."

       Study co-author indicates:

"Given the other options available for Heart-Rate Control, Digoxin should be used with caution in the management of atrial fibrillation, especially in the absence of symptomatic systolic heart failure."
This warning about Digoxin for Atrial Fibrillation Patients; as saving one or a thousand Patient's lives, is sparing from the abuse.  In another study Digoxin Study from 2006 to 2009, then early release of the Congestive Heart Failure Digoxin fatalities in 2012, and an NIH release in 2014 regarding Digoxin's relation to so many Atrial Fibrillation Deaths & Hospitalizations at an alarming rate.
Witnesses are the loved ones, caregivers of those who have taken Digoxin for Atrial Fibrillation; they're the people that see the most.  Several articles state that Patients might not show dramatic signs of change, they may start showing earlier signs of decline gradually; with subtle changes.  Doctors must be precise when prescribing medications for their Patients.
Providing this information is important for the public to be informed.  Please, if you do know anyone or Physician caring for a Patient with a heart and/or Afib diagnosis, a second look at what's being prescribed.  Then ask for other treatments could to be utilized instead of Digoxin as there's other possibilities in treatments, but prescribing Digoxin-as is a 'Killer Drug' for Afib Patients.
Heart Failure Patients Taking Digoxin 'Die at a 72%' Higher Rate
Sharing this with other people you know have been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation or Heart Diseases, will hopefully save lives.  In another study, it was found that for Heart Failure & Congestive Heart Failure Patients, taking Digoxin is a 72% risk of death.  Here's the link for the study and it's press release in 2013:
Medical Study: Digoxin Kills Heart Failure Patients 72% Higher Risk
Patients must have regular EKG to monitor and keep record of any changes. Doctors must be responsible when writing prescriptions for treating Patients with any diagnosis.
